Compton Croquet Club

ecotects were awarded the design contract after entering a competition to design a sports pavilion for the Compton Croquet Club in Saffron’s, Eastbourne. The winning design rests comfortably in the beautiful surroundings of the parklands in which the building will be situated.

The brief was to allow the complex to be multi-purpose to suit guidelines set out by Lottery funding councils.

The game of croquet is symbolised by the trajectory of the ball along the interior curved wall that divides the space between the private and public facilities. This is echoed by the roof lights that allow light to flood into the space. The stained glass windows emphasise the multi-coloured nature of the croquet pegs. A sweeping glass frontage maximises views across the lawns.

This design symbolises ecotects continuing philosophy to design beautiful buildings that are sustainable and thoughtful to their environment, whilst being practical and efficient to run for many years to come.
