Halley VI Ice Station

Arctic ice stations are not usually part of the design brief at ecotects, but we can still appreciate the unique response this laboratory has to its landscape. To avoid the fate of previous ice-stations, this one, designed by Hugh Broughton Architects and AECOM negates the problems of shifting ice by placing the entire structure on runners, allowing the building literally to ski to safety.
